How Did I Get Into the CDTM?

If you are reading this article, there is a high chance you know what CDTM is, and most probably you want to become part of it (or already are a Centerling). But even if you don’t, no worries, I will explain it to you. Lately, I have been asked by some students and friends for advice on how to make a good application, and I thought it would be even better to write an article about how I got into the CDTM community.
For the ones who don’t know, the Center for Digital Technology and Management (CDTM) is a joint institution of the two universities in Munich, the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) and the Technische Universität München (TUM). CDTM offers the interdisciplinary add-on honors degree “Technology Management”, which is part of the Elite Network of Bavaria. This means every Centerling (student of CDTM) is also part of this Network. Students from various study backgrounds with creative ideas, great motivation, and an entrepreneurial mindset are offered the tools to put their ideas into practice. As the study program is very hands-on, CDTM closely cooperates with renowned partners from the industry as well as with start-ups and medium-sized companies.
I learned about CDTM when I first came to Munich to start my Master’s degree in TUM. Since the age of 18, I was participating in many events and startup competitions, expanding my network in Albania, and organizing my own entrepreneurship events. When I came to Munich, I decided to do the same, by becoming part of the startup ecosystem here. It was a Facebook post about CDTM that got my attention. As I always do when I see an interesting opportunity, I applied. And I got rejected.
To be honest, when I first applied for CDTM I didn't know much about it. I surely didn’t know that becoming part of CDTM is not easy. 25 students are selected every semester to join this study program, and the application has two phases, the written one and the one-hour interview.
